Wicked business
Wicked business by Janet Evanovich - 2012
Book 2 of the Wicked Series
Blurb...'Lizzy Tucker’s once normal life as a pastry chef in Salem, Massachusetts, turns upside down as she battles both sinister forces and an inconvenient attraction to her unnaturally talented but off-limits partner, Diesel.
When Harvard University English Professor and dyed-in-the wool romantic Gilbert Reedy is mysteriously murdered and thrown off his fourth-floor balcony, Lizzy and Diesel take up his twenty-year quest for the Luxuria Stone, an ancient relic believed by some to be infused with the power of lust. Following clues contained in a cryptic nineteenth-century book of sonnets, Lizzy and Diesel tear through Boston catacombs, government buildings, and multimillion-dollar residences. On their way they’ll leave behind a trail of robbed graves, public disturbances, and general mayhem.
Diesel’s black sheep cousin, Gerwulf Grimoire also wants the Stone. His motives are far from pure, and what he plans on doing with the treasure, no one knows… but Lizzy Tucker fears she’s in his crosshairs. Never far and always watching, Grimoire has a growing, vested interest in the cupcake-baker-turned-finder-of-lost-things. As does another dangerous and dark opponent in the hunt – a devotee of lawlessness and chaos, known only as Anarchy.
Treasures will be sought, and the power of lust will be unmistakable as Lizzy and Diesel attempt to stay ahead of Anarchy, Grimoire, and his medieval minion, Hatchet, in this ancient game of twisted riddles and high-stakes hide-and-seek'
Wicked appetite by Janet Evanovich - 2010
Book 1 of the Wicked series
Blurb...Life in Marblehead has had a pleasant predictability, until Diesel arrives. Rumor has it that a collection of priceless ancient relics representing the Seven Deadly Sins have made their way to Boston’s North Shore. Partnered with pastry chef Lizzie Tucker, Diesel bullies and charms his way through historic Salem to track them down—and his criminal mastermind cousin Gerewulf Grimorie. The black-haired, black-hearted Wulf is on the hunt for the relic representing gluttony. Caught in a race against time, Diesel and Lizzie soon find out that more isn’t always better, as they battle Wulf and the first of the deadly sins.
With delectable characters and non-stop thrills that have made Janet Evanovich a household name, Wicked Appetite will leave you hungry for more

Elemental mysteries series
Elemental mysteries series - Elizabeth Hunter - 2011/2012 - Kindle
Blurb...A phone call from an old friend sets Dr. Giovanni Vecchio back on the path of a mystery he’d abandoned years before. He never expected a young librarian could hold the key to the search, nor could he have expected the danger she would attract. Now he and Beatrice De Novo will follow a twisted maze that leads from the archives of a university library, through the fires of Renaissance Florence, and toward a confrontation they never could have predicted.
Review: I stumbled across this series the other day. I just bought Book 1 and though I would give it a try. I was so hooked that I am now up to Book 3 and I'm loving it. It ticks all the right boxes for this genre, action, good v's evil, love, history books and throw in a can of whoop arse and you are in for a rollicking good time. What's not to love. I highly recommend this series.

The power of six
The power of six by Pittacus Lore - 2011
Book two of the Lorien legacies.
Blurb....
Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us—if we all still believe in our mission. How can I know? There are six of us left. We’re hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another . . . but our Legacies are developing, and soon we’ll be equipped to fight. Is John Number Four, and is his appearance the sign I’ve been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who may be strong enough to bring the six of us together?
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio—and failed.
I am Number Seven. One of six still alive.
And I’m ready to fight.
Picking up from the ending of 'I am number four'. this installment has two stories running simulainiously. One, in America on the run with John, Sam, Six and Bernie Kosar and two in a convent/orphanage high in the mountains of Spain where we meet number seven. This book is faced paced and edgier and the ending leaves you wanting more. I'm enjoying this series and I am really looking forward to the next one.

I am number four by Pitticus Lore - 2009
Blurb ....
We were nine, three are dead, I am number four.
Nine teenagers and their guardians are hiding on Earth … protected by a charm that means they can only be killed in numeric order, three are already dead. John Smith is Number Four. And his mortal enemies are hunting him down.
The only way to keep off radar is to keep moving, never staying in one place for long. Finally in the firing line, all he can do is adopt the guise of a student and pray his unusual gifts – his legacies – stay hidden long enough for him to settle into this new community.
But others seem to sense his otherness and when small-town life sucks him into its intrigues, it's only a matter of time before his true nature is revealed. And that means there's no space for love, friendship or a future if it means protecting not only himself, but the other five …

Wicked appetite
Wicked appetite - Janet Evanovich - 2011
Blurb ....
Lizzy Tucker has a way with cupcakes, and she’s inherited a great-aunt’s 1740 saltbox house in Salem, Massachusetts, plying her trade at Dazzle’s Bakery in town. Who should turn up in her living room but Diesel (Visions of Sugar Plums, 2002), who is extremely handsome, very strong, and not entirely human (if not entirely angelic). Diesel is locked into a cosmic battle with his cousin Wulf, specter-thin with more than an air of sulfur about him. Lizzy, who may or may not have a secret, special ability, is needed by Wulf and Diesel to recognize objects of magical power. What follows is a romp that careens wildly between impossibly silly and impossibly adorable (and includes the reemergence of Carl the monkey from Evanovich’s Plum Spooky, 2009). Lizzy gamely attempts to make sense of oddly magical occurrences (in possession of one of the magic charms, she can’t stop eating; in possession of another, she wants household goods and babies now), while simultaneously dealing with some fairly specific threats involving Wulf and resisting Diesel’s obvious affection and attraction.
As usual Janet's stories leave you with a smile on your face. This one doesn't disappoint with the dangerously sexy Deisel and his latest quest to keep mankind save from the perils of evil. It is a laugh out loud, shake you head at the antics of the main characters, with a tease of sexual tension.
For those who love the Stephanie Plum series, it is a very similar story line with supernatural themes and her additction to all foods and a great sense of humour.
I absolutely love Janet and I am definately looking forward to the next book.

Blood song
Blood song by Rhiannon Hart - 2011
Blurb ....
When her sister becomes betrothed to a prince in a northern nation, Zeraphina’s only consolations are that her loyal animal companions are by her side – and that her burning hunger to travel north is finally being sated.
Already her black hair and pale eyes mark her out as different, but now Zeraphina must be even more careful to keep her secret safe. Craving blood is not considered normal behaviour for anyone, let alone a princess. So when the king’s advisor, Rodden, seems to know more about her condition than she does, Zeraphina is determined to find out more. Zeraphina must be willing to sacrifice everything if she’s to uncover the truth – but what if the truth is beyond her worst nightmares?
I have just come across this new Australian author and found it interesting that she has the same name as someone else I know. As I was reading the blurb for this book I was thinking hmm another vamp book. However, when I was actually reading the story I found that I was totally off the mark. It is set in the time of kings and queens and princesses marrying for border protection and money and hopefully love. Zeraphina always new that she was looked different to her mum and older sister but couldn't understand why and why is she always craving blood? I did enjoy this story and I look forward to reading the second book.

Morganville Vampire series
Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Caine - Penguin 2009- (Kindle)
Blurb ....
College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life, but they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood
So far, this series contains 10 books, there will be 12 in total, the 11th due out at the end of this year.
I was totally involved in this vampire/human story. It features a big cast, primarily focusing on Claire and her friends Shane, Michael and Eve who live in the small town of Morganville which is ran by vampires. The stories are diverse while slowly building up to the ultimate ending. While each book has its own storyline, Rachel Caine lets you discover more about the characters and their backgrounds. As I was reading each book I was shocked and amazed and in awe of author's ability to keep you reading and wanting for more.
